Victoria Day Fireworks 2012 Ashbridges Bay – Toronto Beaches

Happy Victoria Day 2012! Toronto’s only Victoria Day fireworks show will be a spectacular 14 minute display at Ashbridges Bay Park, rain or shine.

The show will start around 9:45pm and last about 14 minutes, but head to the neighbourhood early to explore and get a good seat on the beach! The Park is located on Lakeshore Boulevard East, at the foot of Coxwell Avenue and is easily accessible by public transit. TTC service will be increased between Queen Street East and the Bloor-Danforth subway on the Coxwell (22A), Main (64) and Woodbine South (92A) routes to handle the more than 80,000 people expected at the event.

The annual statutory holiday, which takes place on the last Monday before or on May 24, is in honour of Queen Victoria, who came to the British throne at the age of 18 and held it until her death in 1901.

What’s open and closed?

  • LCBO and beer stores are closed. Libraries, government offices, schools, banks and many grocery stores, including Loblaws, Fortinos and No Frills, are closed.
  • The Royal Ontario Museum, Ontario Science Centre, CN Tower, Canada’s Wonderland, Ontario Place, Centreville and the Toronto Zoo are open
  • The TTC and GO Transit are running on holiday schedules.

The big fireworks display is fired from an area of Ashbridge’s Bay Park that makes the show visible from Coxwell Avenue to Victoria Park on the boardwalk. In past years, heavy congestion has resulted in the closing of Lakeshore Blvd between Leslie Street and Woodbine Avenue. It is recommended that the public consider public transit to attend this event.
