Canada Day Toronto Beaches 2011

Happy Birthday Canada! If you can’t be in Ottawa for the big party and aren’t heading up north to a cottage for the weekend, head down to the Toronto Beaches this July 1st to celebrate Canada Day! Remember, please don’t drink and drive no matter where how you enjoy this Canada Day :-)

Here’s what’s happening:

  1. Canada’s birthday is celebrated every year with free fireworks on the expanse of the Beach at Ashbridge’s Bay Park. Starts after 9:30pm.
  2. The Beaches Lions Canada Day Family Festival will be on in Kew Gardens Park from 12 noon to 6pm. Featuring local personalities and performers, Beach Idol and a BBQ.
  3. Vinyl 95.3’s Red, White & Vinyl Festival will be on in Woodbine Park from 12 noon to 9pm. Performances by Dan Hill, Brass Transit, Alannah Miles, Andy Kim and Lighthouse. Followed by outdoor disco party until 10 pm. Brava Liscensed Area and family Fun Zone.
  4. Out Door Festival – 243 Coxwell Ave Royal Canadian Legion Branch 1/42. 416-465-0120. Celebration consists of food -games-outdoor patio -live band – jumping castle – prizes for the kids and a lot more fun for the whole family.
  5. On the western edge of East York is the newer Canada Day tradition of the Toronto East Rotary Club’s Ribfest. It takes place at Whistler’s Grille, 995 Broadview Ave., from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. In addition to the ribs, there will be music, a magician and a birthday cake at 4:30 p.m.
  6. There is a Canada Day walk at 1 p.m. Meet in front of the Beach library, 2161 Queen St. E. The two hour walk will goes past local landmarks and participants will receive a free flag.
  7. Neighbours come together on Canada Day to Riverdale Park East at Broadview Avenue and Gerrard Street East from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. rain or shine. Call 416-392-4060.

What’s Closed July 1st.:

  • Libraries, City of Toronto offices
  • Government buildings, post offices, banks
  • Liquor/beer stores and many grocery stores
  • City of Toronto child-care centres
